Forge - Section heading metafields
Template based sections within the Forge theme include a header section which allows you to add an image along with headings and subheadings beyond the title of the page you are viewing.
When viewing a Blog post or Page you will be shown a header option allowing for unique content to be added using metafields. The Collection page uses a similar section called Collection header but has a toggle option that allows for the Collection image to be used instead.
In your store admin open: Settings > Metafields
In this example we will create some metafields that allow custom fields to be added to Pages. The practice is the same for products, collections and blog posts, when opening the metafields page in your store admin you will simply select the part of your store you are creating a metafield for.
Creating a title metafield
- Click on: Add definition
- Enter a name, for example: Page heading
- Ignore the namespace and key, this will be automatically filled based on your title.
- Enter a description which will help to remember what this field is used for when viewing you page admin.
- Click on: Select content type and select: Single line text
- Click save when done.
Creating a subheading metafield
- Click on: Add definition
- Enter a name, for example: Page subheading
- Ignore the namespace and key, this will be automatically filled based on your title.
- Enter a description which will help to remember what this field is used for when viewing you page admin.
- Click on: Select content type and select: Multi line text
- Click save when done.
Creating an image metafield
- Click on: Add definition
- Enter a name, for example: Page image
- Ignore the namespace and key, this will be automatically filled based on your title.
- Enter a description which will help to remember what this field is used for when viewing you page admin.
- Click on: Select content type and select: File
- Click save when done.
When any or each of these have been created you will see new custom fields at the bottom of your pages when viewed in the admin.
From here you can add content that will be unique to each page. These custom fields can be selected in your theme admin to fill that content where it is available.
