Today, January 12, 2018, the Shopify community woke up to an issue with all Instagram Feed images not showing. This is due to an Instagram API change; this change requires us to make an update to all theme Instagram Feeds. If your shop is experiencing this issue, your feed will look something like this
In this tutorial, we will walk you through how to correct this Instagram Feed issue in your Underground Theme.
If you do not find any of the files or code referenced below within your theme this would mean that you are using an older version of the theme which would require further editing beyond the edits shown here.
To ensure that you are always using the most up to date software within your website and are able to utilize the most current features of Shopify we recommend to update your theme to the most recent version which is free providing that you have already purchased and paid for that theme in the past.
Before you install the fix there is one step to try which may solve your Instagram feed problem. From the Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes > under the theme you want to fix, click the blue Customize button. Go to Sections > Instagram Feed under Instagram access token delete the access token and click the blue Save button. Then follow the steps here to create a new access token, paste the token in the box and click the blue Save button. If your Instagram feed is still not working properly than continue to Step 2.
From the Shopify admin, you will go to Online Store > Themes > under the theme you want to install the fix click Actions > Edit Code.
On the left sidebar, you will see a list of theme folders scroll down, and select Assets > then find the theme.js.liquid file and open it. You will need to search the file by pressing Control+F, or Command+F on a Mac, search for theme.Instagram = . Highlight the code starting at:
Delete your selection and replace it with the following code snippet:
Click on the save button in the upper right-hand corner and close this file.
In the left sidebar select Section folder and look for the file named instagram.liquid or instagram-feed.liquid and open it. We are going to replace the all of the code in this file with new code, but this code is specific to the exact Underground Theme you're using.
Open the link below for the theme you are using and copy the code snippet.
Then, replace the code in your instagram.liquid or instagram-feed.liquid. Click on the save button in the upper right hand corner and close this file.
Now if you refresh your site the Instagram Images should appear! If you have tried to implement these changes and continue to have an issue please contact our support.
